How Easy is it to Install a Bidet?

By Bob Jones May9,2023

Bidets offer an effective alternative to toilet paper. Not only will they significantly decrease paper waste, but they can also prevent clogged pipes. While bibets can often be installed within minutes in any bathroom, certain models may require professional plumbing work before installation can begin.

To install a bidet, first stop your water supply to your toilet and flush. Remove both your existing toilet seat and its lid before searching for small caps underneath the lid with a flathead screwdriver to open them up.

Easy to assemble

Bidet toilet seats and attachments offer an easier way to add the functionality of a bidet without installing an individual fixture in your bathroom. Simply attaching to the rim of an existing toilet and connecting to water supply lines makes installation quick and straightforward; all it requires is making sure the bidet nozzles are positioned appropriately – then there’s nothing else left for you to worry about!

Begin by shutting off the water to your toilet by turning off its valve beneath it. Flush the toilet to drain its tank and take any additional steps necessary, such as taking away its existing seat (if applicable).

Installing a floor-mounted bidet requires roughing-in both hot and cold water supply lines as well as a new drain (bidet drains are half as big as toilet drains but don’t require traps). Once complete, set your bidet on floor bolts with brackets in place – these must be high enough so washers and nuts can thread through easily while not too high that decorative caps won’t snap into place when necessary.

Easy to install

Installing a bidet that stands alone and separate from the toilet requires more work than attaching one to an existing toilet seat. First, you must assess your plumbing setup and supply lines before following any instructions that came with your bidet seat or attachment – an attachment usually includes a fitting that connects between its inlet/outlet pipe of the tank and water supply hose – with one end connecting directly to your bidet seat at its other end.

If you are installing a floor-mounted bidet in your bathroom, pre-drill the holes for bolt placement in its floor. Either use the template that comes with your bidet to mark and drill these holes, or simply mark and drill them yourself. After this is completed, install your bidet onto its mount with its included washers and nuts before connecting its drain, shut-off valve and water supplies.

Easy to maintain

Bidets can be installed onto existing toilets, but they require dedicated plumbing with its own shut-off valve and special trapping. You may be able to handle floor-mounted bidet installation yourself; for wall and freestanding units it may require professional services.

Make sure the water supply to your toilet is turned off, then remove the toilet seat and clean its mounting area. Bidets come equipped with flat plastic mounting plates which you can position over bolt holes on the rim of the toilet; black brackets then slip through these holes into bracket holes on its underside and secure this flat plastic mounting plate to the mounting bolts below.

Install the bidet’s junction fitting, which should connect to both the toilet tank inlet, water supply hose, and bidet seat’s water source hose. Turn back on the water supply hoses to test and ensure everything is functioning as intended.

Easy to clean

Bidets have quickly become an indispensable bathroom fixture that are both user-friendly and can save on toilet paper costs. Before installing one, however, you must assess your existing plumbing to ensure the rough-in piping is in the appropriate places – they require different setup than traditional toilets so a drain must be installed as well as checking water supply/shutoff valve for leaks/function.

To install a bidet, unscrew and screw in the bidet t-valve from your toilet tank, then connect your water supply hose. Connect the free end of your bidet hose to the seat; push in its button if your bidet features feminine cleaning nozzle extension, turn back on water supply, test bidet performance before testing once more for proper function; regularly clean both its nozzle and hose using similar cleaners as your toilet to maintain cleanliness.
